Trauma
Incident Reduction (TIR)
| Are
you experiencing stress associated with trauma? |
BAM! There
it is again! Anxiety! You get it every time something happens.
Flash backs keep recurring! What's going on? You may be experiencing
the result of a trauma.
What
is a Trauma?
According to Trauma Relief Services of the Northwest, a traumatic
event is any experience that pushes beyond the conscious mind's
ability to cope. Such incidents are often wholly or partially
inaccessible to a person's awareness, and thus difficult to
examine or confront consciously. The stress associated with
traumatic experiences can cause lingering physical, emotional
and chemical changes in the body and nervous system.
These
reactions, in effect, can become imprinted in the body and
mind and easily be restimulated when new experiences trigger
the unresolved or hidden memories of the trauma:
Increased
anxiety
Symptoms of depression
Low self esteem
Chronic fatigue
Inability to work or to concentrate
Preoccupation, lack of focus
Dependence on alcohol and/or drugs
Marital problems
Inappropriate negative emotions and patterns
Flash backs
Insomnia
Resolving
Past Trauma
Enjoying a healthy, happy life is important. Unresolved traumas
will continue to remain in your unconsciousness like hidden
landmines. However, trauma does not have to be a barrier to
your happiness for the rest of your life.
TIR
Session
Trauma Incident Reduction (TIR) defuses the reaction to resolve
trauma. TIR resolves the trauma and its resulting negative
effects. TIR facilitators are trained to handle trauma with
a safe, client-centered process called TIR. A TIR session
is unique.
How
Does TIR Work?
TIR is sometimes compared to peeling layers of an onion. The
client works with the facilitator to "view" their
experience. "Viewing" is the action of examining
one's own world in such a way as to integrate unresolved issues,
gain insight, increase awareness, and reduce unwanted thoughts
and feelings. As a result, clients report an increased sense
of self-empowerment in their lives and relationships.
